Castelló d´Empúries has a great historical medieval importance to this region. This is reflected in its lay out- narrow, cobbled streets, village squares and monumental buildings such as the basilica of Santa Maria (better known as The Cathedral of The Emporda), The Old Bridge, The prison (not in use!)
